Your questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

These are the questions we are asked most often โ€” about riding the board, looking after the turf, charging, and how our closing-down sale works. If your question is not here, please just ask.

Is the GolfBoard hard to ride if I have never skateboarded?
Not at all. The board was designed to be a high-performance machine that is genuinely easy for anyone to use. You stand on the deck, control acceleration and braking with a bar-mounted thumb throttle, and steer simply by leaning gently from side to side. Beginners start in a low-speed mode and build confidence before moving to the faster setting, and the stability bar gives an extra point of control. We have seen riders in their seventies with no board-sports experience riding comfortably within a few minutes.
Will the boards damage the grass?
No. The boards run on the same kind of turf tyres found on standard golf-course maintenance equipment. The combined weight of rider and board is far lower than a buggy, which greatly reduces soil compaction and turf stress, and the four-wheel-drive system shares power evenly across all four wheels to avoid wheel-spin. The smooth, gradual acceleration means no turf-damaging burnouts, even on damp British mornings.
What terrain can the GolfBoard handle?
A great deal. The board was built to cope with everything from steep grassy slopes and paved paths to soft turf and loose gravel. The large turf tyres and four-wheel drive keep it grippy and surefooted across the kinds of mixed conditions you find on a typical UK course, while keeping the ground in good order as you go.
How is it powered and charged?
Power comes from a compact lithium-ion battery built into the base of the board. Lithium batteries are lighter, more powerful and far longer-lasting than the lead-acid batteries used in many buggies, and they need no maintenance. A full charge takes roughly two and a half hours and is good for a full eighteen holes, with the pack rated for around a thousand charge cycles โ€” enough for several thousand rounds over its life.
Should a club replace its buggies with boards?
We would not suggest replacing buggies outright. The GolfBoard works best as a supplement to your existing fleet, giving the club a way to attract new members and stand out from neighbouring courses. The boards take up less space between uses, charge quickly and keep maintenance costs low compared with conventional buggies.
Do you deliver, and what about the sale?
Yes, we can arrange delivery anywhere in the United Kingdom. As we are closing down, all remaining stock is reduced and sold first come, first served. Prices are on application because they depend on exactly what is left when you call, so the quickest way to find out what is available and what we can do is to ring Malcolm or Peter, or send us an email.

A little more on riding and looking after a board

The questions above cover what we are asked most, but a few themes come up often enough to be worth expanding on. The first is confidence. Almost everyone who has never stood on a board worries they will not take to it, and almost everyone is riding comfortably within a hole or two. The board is forgiving by design: acceleration is smooth and progressive, the brake is gentle, and the low-speed setting gives you all the time you need to find your feet. There is no knack to learn and nothing athletic about it.

The second is upkeep, which is far less than people expect. There is no engine to service and no fluids to check. You charge the board overnight from an ordinary domestic socket, keep the tyres at the right pressure, give it an occasional wipe-down, and that is broadly that. The lithium battery is sealed and maintenance-free, and because the board is built in modules, the rare worn part can be swapped without specialist tools or a costly workshop visit. For most owners, running a board comes down to plugging it in and enjoying it.

The third is suitability, and here honesty matters most. A GolfBoard is wonderful on the great majority of courses, but if yours has unusual restrictions or you have a specific health concern, tell us before you buy. We would rather have that conversation up front than see anyone disappointed. As ever during the closing-down sale, the quickest way to get a straight answer about any of this is simply to call.

Still deciding?

Ask us anything before you buy

We would rather have a proper conversation than leave you guessing. If you want to know about a board's condition, whether it suits the kind of course you play, how charging works at home, or what delivery to your part of the UK would involve, pick up the phone or drop us a line. With the business closing, the sooner you ask, the more choice you will have.
